Getting Together at Fair Do’s

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks with our little business!

In the middle of June, we celebrated our 20th birthday! It was in 1997 that Jan, our manager, started up this lovely fair trade shop having been a Traidcraft regional rep for some time beforehand. We had a little celebration with many staff and volunteers of Fair Do’s from over the years, as well as friends from other organisations such as Fair Trade Wales, and local supporters of Fair Do’s like Alun Michael, PCC for South Wales.

Jon Matthias, one of our Directors, gave a presentation documenting some of the achievements of Fair Do’s over the last 20 years. This was a lovely trip down memory lane with some brilliant photos. You can see the pictures from Jon’s presentation, including an encounter with Cherie Blair, right here! Fair Do’s 20 year presentation

Our thanks go out to everyone who came along to help us celebrate this amazing milestone, and of course, to all our staff, volunteers, reps and customers who have helped to keep us here for 20 years! We hope we will be here for many more! Here are some photos from our evening together. (Read on below to hear about our first experience of The Great Get Together!)

Another exciting event we have held this month was The Great Get Together. This is an initiative set up in memory of Jo Cox MP, bringing together communities to celebrate all that we have in common. You can read more about the Great Get Together on their website here.

On the day, we transformed the little lane behind our shops into a mini street carnival! There was plenty of sunshine, good music, plastic banana trees!, lots of activities to take part in and beautiful and delicious things to buy. Fair Do’s perfectly chilled fruit punch was certainly popular with everyone on such a warm day!

We were very pleased to be joined by Kevin Brennan, our local MP, who is a great supporter of Fair Do’s.

We loved being a part of it and being able to meet more of our local community, as well as making more links with other local businesses. We are looking forward to repeating the experience in 2018!

Our sincere thanks must go to Michele, who owns and runs The Apothecary, one of our lovely neighbouring shops. Michele organised our little street party event and put so much work into it! And thank you again to all who came along to support the event!
