A busy fair trade Christmas!

We’ve certainly been kept busy at Fair Do’s the last few weeks!

Our Christmas build-up began with our stall at the Cardiff Christmas Market in the City Centre. This was a first for Fair Do’s and made possible for us by Business Wales, to whom we are very grateful! The stall was a great success, (despite some horrible weather conditions!) and we were able to meet many people who were new to Fair Do’s. Any opportunity to spread the word about fair trade and about our little shop is very welcome!

During the same week as the Christmas cabin, we also held our annual big fair trade sales at Park End church in Cardiff, and at the Welsh Assembly buildings. Both events were very well-attended and by now we were definitely getting into the festive mood!

Those who have been friends of Fair Do’s for a while will know that we hold a late night shopping evening every year before Christmas. This year was no exception, but with the added excitement of several local businesses joining with us. The little row of shops on Llandaff road all took part and adorned their shopfronts with lights. We offered fair trade snacks and drinks, and the Crafty Devil Brewery held a tasting of local beers. It was a very successful evening, with many local people joining us – some who had not had the chance to come to Fair Do’s before. We hope to repeat the event next year so watch this space!

And finally, last weekend was Small Business Saturday, when we were very honoured to host Kevin Brennan – MP for Cardiff West – in the shop. Kevin met and chatted with customers and even had a go at manning the till! It was a privilege to have him with us and we are so glad he is supporting local independent businesses. Here he is with Carys – our newest staff member – and Jan.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped to make these events possible! We had an army of volunteers on the Christmas market stall and at each of these events. It just wouldn’t have been possible without you all so THANK YOU! And thank you to all our customers for their support during the Christmas period when it is more important than ever to buy fair trade. You are all making a big difference to local business, and to international trade!
