Following a successful visit during Fairtrade Fortnight 2011, we will once again be welcoming two Palestinian olive producers to the UK this year.

We are delighted to welcome back Deir Istya farmer, Riziq Abu Nasser, who was with us last year. Riziq (pictured below at Fair Do’s in 2011) is a father of three and currently owns 90 olive trees. Deir Istya’s olive co-operative was one of the first to gain Fairtrade and organic certification for its olive oil production.

Riziq will be joined by Taysir Arbasi, Zaytoun’s Director in Palestine. Taysir (pictured below) lives in the Salfeet district which is an area highly dependent on olive cultivation.

As part of their tour, hosted by Zaytoun, Riziq and Taysir will be at Chapter Arts Centre in Canton to host an evening of tastings. As well as delicious olives, olive oil and zatar herbs to sample, our guests will be able to answer any burning questions you may have.

Fair Do’s would like to extend thanks to all at Chapter Arts for co-hosting this event.

All are welcome to come along to a Christmas shopping evening run by a Whitchurch mother & toddler group.

There will be a variety of stalls selling gifts and foods. Fair Do’s will be there selling - among other things - our gorgeous baby clothes and delicious fair trade Christmas foods.

Canton Uniting Church

If you are interested in hearing about first-hand experience of the kind of producers who supply our products, this is the event for you! Danielle Johnson and Kate Meakin, both formerly of Fair Trade Wales, will speak at this meeting about their recent trips to Uganda and India respectively. They both worked closely with farmers and producers and will have many insights into the meaning of fairtrade for the people at the other end of the spectrum from us here in the UK.

This event takes place at the Howardian Centre, Cardiff and is open to all teachers with an interest in ESDGC ( Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.) We’d love to see you there to tell you about what Fair Do’s can do for your school.
