EASTER WEEKEND
Fair Do’s will be closed on Good Friday, 2nd April 2010. We will reopen on Tuesday 6th April. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
There is still plenty of time before then to buy your fair trade Easter eggs and other chocolate goodies in the shop! We also have a lovely selection of wooden crosses and pendants to celebrate the season.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and reps a Happy Easter and to thank you once again for your support.
MEET THE PRODUCERS IN FAIR TRADE FORTNIGHT
Fair Trade Fortnight is nearly upon us and we have plenty of exciting events to look forward to. A particular highlight for Fair Do’s will be the planned visit of olive producers from Palestine. These producers provide olives for Zaytoun, who during last year’s FT14 launched the first ever olive oil with the fair trade mark.

Our visitors will be with us in the shop on Tuesday 2nd March at 10.30am. All are welcome to come and meet them to find out about their trade and how you can help them by buying their fair trade products.
We look forward to seeing you there!
P.S. Help us promote this event by downloading the poster here
–STOP PRESS– 25th Feb:
We had hoped to be joined by the farmers who grow the olives in Palestine but sadly they have not been granted entry to the UK for fairtrade fortnight. We will be joined instead by Haitham Hasasneh and Thomas Cazalis, both of whom are involved in the production of the world’s first fair trade olive oil. Haitham is the Livelihood Project Manager for Oxfam GB in Palestine. Through his role he strengthens Oxfam’s technical capacity to prepare for and respond to food and livelihood insecurity in Palestinian territories. Thomas is the coordinator of the olive oil program for the Palestinian Farmers Union. Both will be engaging speakers and offer great insight into this work.

FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 23RD FEBRUARY-8TH MARCH 2009
Fairtrade Fortnight is a time every year when a special push is made to raise the profile of fairly traded goods and the issues surrounding fair trade. The theme of Fairtrade Fortnight this year is Make it Happen – Choose Fairtrade. And if you, like us, think now is the time to do something and make it happen, there’s lots of ways to get involved.
At Fair Do’s we support schools, churches, workplaces, social groups, and anyone who’s interested in fair trade. We can supply you with your choice of fairly traded goods on a sale-or-return basis – call into the shop or phone us on (029) 2022 2066 to find out more details. We also stock resources, including DVDs, posters and bilingual literature to help you promote fair trade.
The finale of Fairtrade Fortnight 2009 will be a huge event bringing together the whole Fairtrade movement, from producers to school children, with you, the Fairtrade campaigners at its heart. From noon on Friday 6 March to noon on Saturday 7 March, people all over the world will attempt to break the world record for Fairtrade banana eating by hosting banana-themed events.
Find out more about how you can make it happen for banana farmers at www.fairtrade.org.uk/gobananas where you can register for the event, download a Go Bananas for Fairtrade Campaign Pack and order the limited edition Go Bananas for Fairtrade T-shirt.

BACKING FOR FAIR TRADE COUNTRY BID

This article appears on the BBC News website.
The Archbishop of Wales is supporting a campaign to make Wales the world’s first Fair Trade Country offering Third World farmers a better deal.
Archbishop Barry Morgan backed the Wales Fair Trade Forum’s initiative at its launch in Cardiff on Saturday.
On St David’s Day Cardiff became the world’s first Fair Trade capital.
The city beat Edinburgh to claim the title after many of its cafés, shops, businesses, and schools showed their commitment to the partnership.
The Wales Fair Trade Forum was set up in 2000 by the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, Christian Aid, Fair Do’s Ltd, Oxfam Cymru, Tearfund and Traidcraft.
“Many years ago, Fair Trade coffee was considered to be a penance rather than a pleasure, but that is most definitely no longer true. ”
-The Archbishop of Wales
The Archbishop backed the appeal as World Fair Trade Day was celebrated on Saturday.
He said: “During the past few years we have seen several towns in Wales attain Fairtrade status including Ammanford near my native Gwaun Cae Gurwen, and Criccieth where I lived for many happy years during the early 1990s.
“And I am delighted that Cardiff was this year declared the world’s first Fair Trade capital city.
“Many years ago, Fair Trade coffee for example was considered to be a penance rather than a pleasure, but that is most definitely no longer true.
“Fair Trade coffee is now a first-class product and I choose to drink it because of its fantastic taste and not out of any sense of duty.
“Fair Trade principles make a real difference to the lives of those people who produce these products and allows us all to contribute positively to the developing world.
Jan Tucker, from Fair Trade Wales who runs the Fair Do’s Fair Trade shop in Canton in Cardiff, said the partnership was a “practical and easy way” for most people in Wales to make a difference to the lives of farmers overseas.
It helps farmers them gain access to education and health care for their children, she said.
“We want to involve not just individuals but local governments, charities, trade unions, schools – any group – and hope all these come on board.”
